Borders performed unauthorized repairs to our vehicle!!! We had a quote from another repair shop and took it to borders for a second opinion. We asked what he thought and Russ said he thought he could beat the other shop's quote, but would take a look and give us a call to confirm the repairs. We waited a few days and didn't hear back. We called Russ and he advised that he already performed the work and it was an additional $900 above the estimate. When we asked what the additional charges were for he became rude, demanded we pick up the vehicle immediately and hung up the phone on us. We called back because we still had no idea what additional work was done. He was again rude, did not explain anything but also told us we now had to pay in cash and he would not release the vehicle until then. We became increasingly concerned with his behavior and demeanor that we worried he would harm our vehicle. We advised him we were coming to pick it up, he said he would be there (of course he left, must be hard to make eye contact with someone you're stealing from). His employees instead waited on us. We've consulted with an attorney as well and they advised it was the right thing to do to pay the money because even though the work is unauthorized, it's very easy for mechanic shops to get a lien on your vehicle if the repairs aren't paid for in a reasonable time frame. We're between a rock and a hard place with trying to recover our money and the cost of an attorney to fight this. Obviously Russ knows this and seems to have built his shop on this corrupt business practice. Just awful. Dont even get a quote from them it could cost you your car! Hopefully this review protects someone else.
