1997 Honda Civic EX 4 Cyl 1.6L

Preventive Maintenance

My windshield wiper switch is broken. My trunk leaks when it rains. My passenger side window does not work at all.

I have to keep a wad of paper under my windshield wiper lever to keep it level, and allow it to work. My car is extremely loud when in operation. The faster I drive, the louder it gets. My Honda Civic EX is a 5 speed manual transmission.

First question; wiper switch - replace the switch. Next; the trunk leak - replace the trunk lid gasket / weatherstrip or seal. Remove the old seal from the underside of the trunk lid, clean the sealing surface with rubbing alcohol. Apply the new gasket sealant / adhesive in a bead. Then, apply the new seal or gasket.

Third; the window - the issue may be related to the following possibilities; faulty window relay, faulty window switch, faulty window lift motor, faulty / binding window regulator.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.partsgeek.com, www.carpartswarehouse.com, or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the wiper switch from around $42.00, and the trunk lid seal / gasket from around $21.75 for your vehicle.

Yes I agree with Jimm, you do want to check your tail light lens gaskets as well. They are notorious for water leaks into the trunk from that area.
