1990 GMC V1500 Suburban SLE 8 Cyl 5.70L

whats wrong when i was driving noise was comming from the realend when i stoped to check i seen smoke comming from the w

i have a 1990 gmc 1500 5.7L 25798mi. after driving for a while there was smoke comming from the back wheel, i took the wheel off. in the center of the back plate was wet with oil, also i was able to move the axle up&down,had to drive slow to get home then the brake light came on what is my problem? thanks

if you have gear oil seeping out onto your brakes, that means axle seal is out. as for the slop in your axle, pull cover off and inspect, make sure clip isn't broken or spider gears.......etc...etc......

thanks you very much mopar. is there a bearing on the axleshaft if so how do i replace them?

yes there is a axle shaft bearing. a bearing puller or fabricate your own tool that will engage behind bearing. one suggestion is.....if you haven't done alot of this type of work....have some one else do it...or it can get very expensive.
