1994 Dodge Ram 1500 Base 8 Cyl 5.9L

What is the typical idle rang in idle in "P"and idle in "D" like at a redlight?

Bc I think mine is very low at first start up in "P" it idles at about 1000 but if I drive it and come to a stop and put it back in "P" it's right at 500 then drops to 450 then levels out and stays at 500 even! But if I'm driving and stoped at a redlight it idles about 300 Or maybe in 250?? Seems crazy low! But has never stalled on me? Is that normal?? Thanks

Sounds like the issue is a faulty idle air control (IAC) valve - and should be replaced. Before the IAC is replaced, check the preventive maintenance basics; check and replace the air filter (as required), check and replace the fuel filter (as required).

Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the IAC from around $24.00 for your vehicle.
