1986 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 8 Cyl 5.0L - Transmissions & Drivetrains
Transmission fluid...decreasing?
My car's been shifting roughly between gears lately, but stops it after warming up. I figured it might be my transmission fluid, so I've been following the instructions from the owner's manual to check it, but...isn't heat supposed to cause it to expand? Then why is it that it definitely looks higher before I start the engine, rather than after (even if exactly how high it is is pretty hazy at both points)? Does it actually go down when the fluid is in use?

What you see is the trans draining into the pan. Same as with your engine, oil drains into the pan. Could be the gov is sticking cold. A valve in the valve body sticking.
