Shuddering/squealing brakes

Lexus RX350 with 85K miles--Brakes began squealing over a month ago and now the car "shudders" (front driver side) when I step on the brake. No warning lights. Would like to get brakes repaired but want an idea of what the problem is before going to the shop. Don't want to be ripped off for being an uninformed female. Thanks in advance for the help!

Most likely the brake pads are worn, plus now with the shuddering there may be warped brake rotors.

As the first step - inspect the front brakes - both sides, to look for obvious signs of wear; accumulation of brake dust on the wheels, visible grooves or wear patterns in the friction surface of the brake rotors. Reference the AutoMD website and the 'How-To-Guides' feature to get more familiar with these type repairs and inspections - if nothing else but to become more informed.

Check the various on-line sources; for the replacement parts; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.RockAuto.com, www.partsgeek.com, to list only a few. They (RockAuto) list the front brake rotors and brake pads as a kit; both left and right sides - complete from around $120.00 for your vehicle.

POWER STOP kit # KOE4713 Autospecialty; w/OE Replacement Rotors - or it's equivalent.
