Why does shifter not come out of park?

    this is probably the brake safety switch, the shifter will not come out of park unlesss the brake is pressed, if this switch becomes defective then you may not be able to get it out of park even when the brake is pressed. it may be called a parking lock switch brake lock switch brake safety switch, or sometimes it is the same as the brake light switch. there is a link below to a brake light switch not sure if it is the same switch or not. Your users manual should have some more info on it.
