In newer VWs if you turn of the car key and do not pull it out anything that was on like the radio will not turn off all the way. {If you park the car in the garage} - you pull the key out and then put it back in- it will not drain the battery, if you like keeping keys in the car.

      1. Check your battery cable conn.s. Turn the vehicle's headlights on high beam, then insert the blade of a flathead screwdriver between the battery post and the clamp on the end of the battery cable. Gently twist the screwdriver and observe the headlight beams. If the beams brighten, remove the battery cable from the battery post with a wrench and clean the post and clamp with a battery terminal cleaner, then install and tighten the clamp.

      2. Test the starter solenoid by connecting a jumper cable to the battery side of the solenoid. The solenoid has two large posts and two small posts. A single large post is located on either side of the solenoid. Attach the alligator clip of the jumper cable to the large post on the battery side of the solenoid. Touch the opposite end of the jumper cable to the large post on the other side of the solenoid. If the starter turns the engine normally, the problem likely lies with an ignition override switch, such as a clutch start switch or a neutral safety switch. If the starter produces a buzzing sound, the starter is likely defective. If there is no response at all, the solenoid is defective and must be replaced.

When the MIL is on, this is the next step >>

Hook up a code reader to the diagnostic connector under the dashboard on the driver side. This is the way vehicles are diagnosed. The codes will lead to the repair necessary. The cost of the tool is not that much considering that a shop will bill you a similar amount PLUS parts and labor to fix the problem. There are instructions that come with it and it is easy to do. After you read the code or codes, write them down and repost with the codes and we can tell you what parts to buy to DIY if you are up to it.

You should try to check the condition of your AC relay it maybe busted or just loose, replace AC relay if needed. Also try to check fuse in your HVAC system.

What is the Ideal pressure recommended for tires per PSI for 205/55 R16
    • testdrive
      6/18/2010 testdrive
check the manufacturer's tire pressure located on the driver side door. ideally for 55 series tires , maintain 29-33psi(depending on vehicle's load) of tire pressure if using normal air and add 10% if using nitrogen.

Thank you, I checked with VW dealership mechnic as well he mentioned 35 psi
will be fine for that kind of tires.

You probably need a new ignition. My husband had a Focus and they are notorious for that. He would put the key in and it wouldn't turn. The steering wheel wasn't locked. Then finally after trying over and over again it would do it. Then eventually (he was about an hour from home) he had to leave his car in some parking lot because he couldn't even get it to start. Took a taxi home.

This fix requires you to take the airbag off and your steering wheel off. Just make sure your battery is disconnected.
