My car will go in reverse but it won't drive forward. After hitting the gas for a while there is a thump
This happens in cold weather only, after the thump is heard the car lurches forward. Just started a few months ago. No problem in warm weather. It's as if the tires are locked. Took to the mechanic 3 times. He changed the brake bell but that didn't help. ...

What is included in servicing transmission?
I was advised by one mechanic not to do a "flush"?

    • Jimm
      4/20/2015 Jimm
That is correct - avoid the fluid flush for the simple fact it cannot clean the filter inside the transmission. The proper transmission service should include; new fluid, new filter and pan / seal gasket.

Try these on-line vendors: www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.partsgeeks.com, www.rockauto.com - to name only a few. They list the transmission filter kit from around $11.50 for your vehicle.

Replace the neutral safety switch / range selector - located on top of the transmission - easy repair. Typically only one or two bolts to remove and one electrical connection to unplug. Reference the AutoMD website and the 'How-To-Guides,or this website; www.autozone.com for the specific steps.

Check these various on-line vendors; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.RockAuto.com, www.partsgeek.com, to list only a few.
The neutral safety switch / range selector is around $155.00 for your vehicle.

Cv axle shaft size is there different sizes?
I replaced my cv axle half shaft and now there is a lot of up and down play at the differential

When you bought the axle all you had to do was match
      the application

Then measure all areas of the old axle &
take it with you to match to the new one

No way you could install a part into the transaxle
      & have play

You should never have gotten that far

Possibly a worn CV shaft bearing at the transmission housing.

      These CV axle shafts will fit - or their equivalent;
APWI Part # TO8045 (front left)
APWI Part # TO8044 (front right)

What is causing my husband's car to occasionally lose its accelerating power?
My husband's Camry has almost 160000 miles. It occasionally will lose its acceleration and won't go above 30 - 40 mph. This is an intermittent problem. I think it's happened 3 or 4 times. Doesn't seem to matter if its hot or cold out. He's taken it to the dealer ...

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Do not skip this important first step - there are literally hundreds of possible fault codes. Avoid wasting/ throwing money at the problem.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires
