What is wrong when I press the accelerator and I hear a whirring sound. This has been going on for about three weeks.

      Hello
Without being able to hear it myself I would start by checking the alternator for excessive bearing noise, or the power steering pump fluid level and for excessive noise as well.
      Hope this helps ;)

The first check is the transmission fluid level and condition.

Milage 150,000 This just started in the last week. Recently had work done to replace the pulley the crank shaft is attached to that drives the alternator and A/C.

Could bad wheel hubs and speed sensors cause 'bucking' sensation in car?
2006 subaru legacy 2.5 4cyl. Started it one day, drove it a block and it started violently shaking, felt like trouble shifting gears. Check engine came on a block later (flashing then solid). I had it towed to a local shop I had never used before. I immediately ...

    Car does not accelerate well
I have a manual transmission. It shifts properly but then only accelerates slowly. Pushing down more on the gas only makes the engine roar. I'm thinking my transmission is going bad but am hoping maybe it's something less expensive.

How can I check that my AWD is working?
This car is a right hand drive & I use it for mail delivery. I drive on snow & ice quite often. When I pull away from a mailbox it doesn't always feel like I have AWD.

I would get the car on a hoist put it in gear and see if all four wheels are turning.

put the car on jack stands put it in gear ideling; if they all spin you have awd, or an easier way, find some loose dirt and mash the gas, at a slight turn, if you see four marks, then yes you do have awd

How do I know its time to replace my clutch? I am feeling a loss of power in 5th gear, while the engine increases RPM.
My 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport has begun to show signs of a transmission problem. I initially noticed a loss in power in 5th gear if I was accelerating. Essentially if I entered 5th gear at 50-55 mph, and continued to accelerate from there to reach 65 or so ...
