If this is happening on one of the gauges, it is usually from battery surge or jump starting. You can insert mechanics wire or coat hanger in trip reset hole and manually move the needle back or you can remove the instrument panel and move the needle that way.

Your question should really be directed to the vehicle manufacturer - GM. This is not common knowledge. There is no data source that I can think of that would detail the differences between the two standards.

How much to fix the car on craigslist
The car has 296,108 miles on it. The Coolant system leaks, and the doors require new seals could you give me a rough amount on how much that would cost to fix.
    • Tifosi
      10/21/2010 Tifosi
So Ariel this is the first car that you bought? (I Read your profile). The door seals are the least of your worries not to mention the fact that they are cheap. Even if you need seals for all the doors, it really wouldnt cost you that much.

Now for the coolant system leaks.

Here is a link that will help you find that leak. Now for the price, i cant give you qupte right now since we dont know what needs to be replaced.

Is there anything I can do to avoid buying a new ignition switch module with the key reader?
My car starts once just fine, then after that I turn the key and it doesn't make a noise at all. Sometimes the security light pops on. It acts as if I'm trying to steal my own car. I have replaced the ignition key already.

    • HouseCallAuto
      10/9/2010 HouseCallAuto
Nobody just knows the size, we place a set of all sizes next to us when we do things like that and trial and error to find the size. Thats the real world answer. If I had to guess I would say the size is an E10 or larger.

The fuel sending unit located in the gas tank has a float and sensor that send the signal to the gas gauge. Usually the sensor or float are the problem but you will probably need to replace the sending unit. It usually comes as one hole piece

they all stop working at the same time?

Check the relay panel see if there is a relay that controls power to them. if the relay is not the problem and the fuse is not, then you will proably have to pull out the dash cluster and test it to see if it is geting power and something is possible wrong there.

This is what we call an intermittent condition. It can be caused by cold solder joints and loose connections of one kind or another inside the set itself. They usually require a trip to the shop where a tech can explore around inside looking for the culprit. They are often very difficult to find; sometimes very easy. Just really depends on what is causing it.

Sometimes a whack on the chassis will correct it temporarily or even permanently sometimes. If you find it changes when you are on a rough or bumpy road that is a good sign the problem is a bad connection inside the unit.

In the very worst case the set will need to be replaced. In the best case it may be a cold solder joint that requires a touch up with the iron to resolder the joint - like on the bottom of the printed board or at a connector. You would need a tech to do that most likely.

you mean it is empty? if you are sure it is empty and there is no gas and it is squirting out then the ventilation for the gas tank is probably clogged. Otherwise if it is full and the hand is reading incorrectly then the problem could be the sensor in the tank.
      9/20/2010 KIM
No, iT'S not full I can only put maybe 1gallon in at a time. then it starts to squirt out the hand reades about an eighth of an inch over full. I can pour nin the gas from a con tainer and it still spills out.

The pump is shutting off because of back pressure. There are usually two lines going to the fuel pipe. The big pipe that the gas goes down and a smaller vent pipe that the air that is being displaced in the tank comes up. If this is blocked or is not working correctly , enough pressure can build up to shut off the nozzle of the gas pump. The gas nozzle thinks your tank is full.
