My turn signals don't work neither does my brake lights except the one on the top. I've replaced them all. What's wrong?
When this first started someone told me to slightly pull my signal lever towards me when I signal either direction or press my brake. This worked for a while but then it stopped eventually.

"When this first started someone told me to slightly pull my signal lever towards me when I signal either direction or press my brake. This worked for a while but then it stopped eventually." - The it sounds like you need to replace the multi function switch.

Since your top brake light works, I would check the switch at your brake pedal. It's likely, there is more that one wire meaning that one will control the top and the other the sides. If there is current coming out (volt meter or test light) when the brake is pressed, then check the connections at the light to make sure they are not corroded or dirty. Sometimes, just cleaning them and making sure they are making good ground will make a difference. If it doesn't work, check for current at the light when the brake is pressed. If there is none, check the wires behind the connections for damage. If none of this works, then it gets trickier.

Why do I hear squealing noise when driving that will stop if I apply the brakes?
I checked & cleaned rear brakes. my master cylinder does have a leak.

First, repair the master cylinder leak - replace the master cylinder. Usually, the squealing noise is the front brake wear sensors; this is a small metal chip built onto the brake pad that just touches / drags on the rotor to audibly indicate the brake material is worn thin and time for replacement. When the brakes are applied, the wear sensor just bends out of the way of the brake pad and rotor disc - silencing the squeal.
Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; or for the repalcement parts.

ABS lights comes on , brakes grind when light is on, checked for damaged hoses could not find any. i did find a broken s
way bar . also gas gage keeps bouncing back and forth, doe's that mean fuel pump going bad .

The gas gauge reading is caused by a bad fuel level sensor. That means replace the pump assembly and sender. The false activation you are getting has to be diagnosed and is always found to be a bad front wheel speed sensor, but there are two, a left and a right. The fault code will identify the side. Have to read the fault code with appropriate GM ABS code reader.

When my ABS and Trac off lights come on, is it serious?
I understand that these are most likely coming on because of my speed sensor in the wheel assemble hub, but i have been reading some TSB, and they are very confusing. I would like to know if it could just be a false alarm, or is my speed sensor really messing up?
    • Spoon Sports

Well, kinda, because chances are, your ABS will not activate in a panic stop, the same as your traction control which is also connected to your braking. Now in my case, its not really an issue because all my cars doesnt have the latest gizmos found in most cars because.

      1. I drive carefully, i rarely use the freeway

      2. These are just uneccessary expenses for me when they get busted.

      3. I believe accidents are the fault of wreckless people and it doesnt matter if you have the technology of NASA/Department of Defense in your vehicle, if one drives like a bat out of hell and lacks common sense at the same time, its useless once Physics takes over.

Either you have a bad wheel bearing or speed sensor at one of the wheels. Once you figure out which wheel the fault is coming from, you will need to replace the entire hub assembly because It is all an enclosed, sealed unit in which the speed sensor and bearing are not serviceable.

Why does the driver side brakelight go off and back up light on when brake is appled with the headlights on?
This only happens when headlights are on. when they are off the signal works normally, and the passenger side is never affected by it. The lights affected have all been changed.

How to clear out an ABS light and a service vehicle soon light
I work at a used car lot, and we have several vehicles with ABS lights on, as well as service vehicle soon lights. Trac lights are another one. I'd like to know how to clear each of these lights on the dash.
    • Jimm
      11/12/2011 Jimm
It may be these vehicles need servicing - which is why these indicator lights are on. Perhaps the used car dealership might invest in handheld OBD scan tool (around $50.00 or so) to help diagnose and repair these indicator light conditions.

I have noticed a humming noise from my front tires that increases with speed. The tires are 4 yr old and properly infla
What do you think is the cause of the humming?
    • Spoon Sports
      11/9/2011 Spoon Sports

The most common cause of a humming sound from ties is uneven tire wear. This is likely if the noise shows up after you have rotated your ties, or have not rotated them in a long time. Try rotating the tires again, if necessary, and according to manufacturer's directions, which should help. Buying new tires is the other alternative.

The problem could be more serious than simple tire wear. If the sound never changes, or happens more when you change lanes, the problem could be a wheel bearing. A wheel bearing problem will be constant and more a grinding sound than a rubbing sound. Eventually, a bad wheel bearing could make your tire fall off and cause an accident.

A third possibility is the balance of the tires. An out-of-balance tire can develop "cupping," which deforms the tire and can cause it to make a sound. If balancing does not clear it up, you need new tires.

I changed the brakes on my car but it still does not stop well. I'm thinking master cylinder, or booster. Your opinion?
The car has roughly 123,000 miles on it. I recently replaced the brakes front brake hoses. Then had to repair a steel brake line. The brake pedal travels too far. I am thinking it's the master cylinder. It happens all the time. I usually pump the brake at least two ...

Try to bleed the air out of the brake lines and if the problem is still occurred, then replace the master cylinder.

As CVO has stated, 99% air in brake lines. Bleeding will cure.

Definately NOT the booster - a bad brake booster will cause the pedal to get hard. Will not effect the pedal travel at all.

yes try bleeding the brake,s. should solve the problem.

Abs light comes on, has new pads
i have replaced the pads, when light comes brakes grind, how do i scan to see if it is the abs sensor
    • Spoon Sports

You could have damaged or disturbed the wiring or connector for one of the wheel speed sensors. I would take the wheels back off and look for any problems. If any of the harnesses came out of their retainers by accident, they could have rubbed through on the wheel or axle. Check to make sure everything is connected and in it's proper place.

    • Spoon Sports

Probably you have an abs sensor problem, but a scan would verify this, you dont want to replace the sensor without finding out first right? However, if you havent changed pads since 1998, its time to replace them

My abs, service vehicle soon & trac control lights are on all the time. What could be the cause?
I checked all the fuses as well as the wire connections at the hydraulic control unit & the electric brake control module! I'm just trying to get to the root to rectify the problem asap! Thanks

You have to diagnose your vehicle with a scan tool capable of reading ABS to verify what the stored troublecode is. The extracted troublecode will help you identify the fault of your vehicle's problem.

How do you change a fuel pressure regulator in a 1995 oldsmobile cutlass base 6 cyl 3.1l
    • Spoon Sports
      9/30/2011 Spoon Sports
None of the books I have show the exact location on the 3.1. Find the fuel rail, what the injectors are connected to. At the end or in the middle of the fuel rails you should see a small round can with a vacuum line attached. That is the fuel pressure regulator. On some 3.1's you must remove the throttle body to get to the FPR the fuel return line is usually connected to it. It shouldn't be too hard to find if you know what you are looking for.

We just bought this car and we are having trouble with the drivers side tail light not working. changed bulbs
and checked fuse still doesn't work. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!! Thanks in advance! Bree

Inspect the bulb socket for any corrosion. Use the 12 volts circuit tester to check for the 12 volts out of the socket.

Note : You will need a schematics wiring diagrams to trace that problem, it may have a contamination from the fuse box to that tail light wiring. didn't provided any coverage for that particular wiring diagrams.
