Make repairs or sell as is?
My 2010 Nissan Sentra has 70,000 miles on it. Check engine light came on recently and the diagnostic test pulled code p0420. Had mass air flow sensor cleaned out and the code cleared. Check engine light came back on a few hours later. I need the car for another ...

P0420 = Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
A damaged or failed oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Downstream oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring damaged or connected improperly
The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / muffler / exhaust pipe
      Retarded spark timing
The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings
Leaking fuel injector or high fuel pressure
      Cylinder misfire
      Oil contamination

Only you can decide the vehicle value / replacement cost - based on the overall condition.

I have a 2012 Altima V6. Dealer mentioned about 2 yr service that will cost $800. Is this right? Seems very expensive
My car has low miles (19k in 2.5 yrs). I always had Ford & did go thru these service milestones (2 yr, 3 yr etc.,). But they were not high cost like this. Can any Nissan owners advise? $800 seems too high. The dealer claims will change all fluids, filters, etc., ...

According to Nissan - here is what the 2 year / 24 months service items consist of; the only fluid and parts are the engine oil filter, brake fluid, air filter, cabin air filter. This may total around $70 -$100 in parts if purchased from local parts stores.

The balance of the 'service' is inspection only -in summary, it sounds expensive and overpriced at $800.00 - however recommend to obtain another quote for the same work from another repair shop, not dealership.

      Replace engine oil and filter
      ❑ Replace brake fluid
      ❑ Replace engine air filter
      ❑ Replace in-cabin microfilter
❑ Rotate tires (except all 370Z)

These items are inspection only; note the service does not state they will add any fluid - only inspection....
❑ Inspect the following: __ Automatic transmission
fluid __ Axle & suspension parts __ Brake lines & cables __ Brake pads, rotors, drums
& linings __ CVT fluid (cube, Murano, Altima, Altima Coupe, Maxima, Rogue, Sentra
and Versa) __Differential oil__ Drive shaft boots __ Exhaust system __ Front suspension ball
joints __ Fuel lines/connections __ Fuel tank vapor vent system
hoses __ Manual transmission oil__ Propeller shaft (4WD/AWD/RWD) __ Steering gear and linkage __ Steering linkage ball joints __ Transfer case oil (4WD/AWD)

Wife's 2014 Nissan Versa Note MIL light has been on and won't go off. Car is handling fine. The manual says this signal has (2) modes. 'Blinking' or 'On' mode. For 'on' it says to check to make sure the fuel-filler cap is on tight, then keep driving and the ...

The check engine light is located on the dash and stays on if the computerized engine control system detects an engine performance or emissions problem.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.
There are literally hundreds of possible codes - so this first step is important to begin any diagnosis.

Because the ice restricts the active shutters from closing and or opening. Once the ice or snow has melted it operates as normal and the MIL light (check engine light) will go out after a few drives. Ice and snow will get into the active shutter area if you are on the freeway following other cars or trucks.

How to reset wheel warning light after snow & ice-cake has left the wheel well?
There seems to be no problem with wheels, tire pressure is good, no shimmy-shake to steering, so I just think the warning light came on with snow & ice build-up surrounding tires at one time during this bad winter. How do I reset the "wheel maintenance" warning light?

Doesnt sound like a tire problem. Sounds like a maintenance reminder, Altimas have mileage countdowns for tire ware. just like for your oil. navigate the vehicle information display in your dash with your steering wheel buttons. you need to goto settings>maintenance.>tire and reset the mileage counter.

    Front passenger window don't close!
    All other windows work!
    • John's Auto Repair
If it doesn't close from either the master switch ( the one on drivers' side )
or the passenger switch, chances are one of these switches is defective.
The other possibility is that the window regulator has failed. Do you hear
any noise coming from the passenger window motor when you try to put
it up or down? Let me know.

So its come to my attention that my Xterra has a squeak. I wasn't sure if it was the cold or the serpentine belt.
I had inspected the belt from plane sight without removing it and its brown in color? I had bought the Xterra at 56,000 miles and now at 90,000. Don't know the last time the belt was changed or when the pulleys have been inspected should i replace the belt? It does ...

If the noise if fairly consistent one way to check if it is the belt is to spray a little wd-40 on the belt if the noise goes away for a bit the noise is coming from the belt and not somewhere else in the engine. Some of the 4.0l engines can also have a misaligned p/s pump. You need to check the alignment of the p/s pump pulley with a straight edge to make sure it is in line with the other pulleys and tensioner if its not in line or shifted to one side you have to loosen the pump bolts and the 3 lower bracket bolts shift it back in line. On the tensioner body there should be some marks to tell if the belt is past what the tensioner can tension. Some aftermarket belts can fit loose as well causing a noise. If replacing the belt I would recommend using a Nissan belt.

Always replace the belt tensioner at the same time when replacing the drive belt. By the way, do not use WD40 spray on the drive belt, as this will deteriorate the belt.

Check these various on-line vendors;,,, to list only a few. For example, they (RockAuto) list the drive belt from around $15.00, and the belt tensioner from around $28.00 for your vehicle.
