    My check engine light is on and there is a loss of power
    The check engine light is on it's yellow color yellow when it starts it runs rough and then when you try to drive it is shimmies in with her with the loss of power

      The check engine light is located on the dash and stays on if the computerized engine control system detects an engine performance or emissions problem.

      First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

      Do not skip this important first step - there are literally hundreds of possible fault codes. Avoid wasting/ throwing money at the problem.

    Well first of all. My mini started shutting down on me like some one turn off a switch.
    7300.00 miles. check engine light came on first 02sensor we replaced both. check engine came back on . husband took off manifold catalytic found screen melted. put back on . no more check en light but turns over but wont start.

      What did you do so far?

      I would think you know how old the battery is &
      have tested that before coming here & had the
      starter tested as well

      Do you have no repair shop you go to several times
      a year & have been using for decades?

    My mini rotates but the engine will not start-what is the problem?
    Engine cylinder head gasket was replaced due to overheating.

      Posted labor time for thermostat is between 1.5 and 1.7 hours and the genuine OE part lists for $32 plus a gallon of coolant for about $15.

      The parts cost; thermostat = $3.50 or so, the thermostat gasket / seal = around $4.50 or so. The labor to replace will probably be around 0.50 hour - so depending on the repair shop, maybe $40.00 for the labor charge. Then, you'll need the anti-freeze to refill the cooling system @ $10.00 to 15.00 per gallon - maybe use a couple of quarts of anti-freeze.

    After driving my Mini through water the engine light came on. Is it safe to drive?
    It starts and appears to sound ok.

      Check the vehicle for fault codes to see if there are any sensors were involved to the malfunction of the engine.

      1.Local auto parts stores such as Autozone ( not in California) or Advance Auto parts will scan and retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes ( dtc ) stored in the powertrain control module for free of charge..

      2. Amazon.com has the code reader for less than $20.00 dollars.

      3.Re-post the dtc's in here " answer question " for further assistance.

      Note: we need the dtc's to identify the sensor, there are a dozen different sensors to operate the car.

    Check engine light on and off, when off my tire lt, dsc lt, temp gauge, a/c off and speedometer gauges stop working.
    These bounce back and forth. Had it in shop, can't find issues. Loose connections in dash corrected temporarily. Now doing it again!

    My 03 mini cooper s overheats in traffic. Fan not comming on when temp raises. Changed everything and stumped. Pleashelp
    Fan won't come on at temp. Only when I use a/c. I Did mouser resister mod, thermostat, water temp sensor, relays and fuses. One clue I get is when I jump 12v at the radiator fan plug I get low speed function (blue/red) wire but no function at other (red) lead. Ps ...

      On a four cylinder engine there is only one bank - the O2 sensor 1 is upstream of the ctalytic converter (nearest the exhaust manifold) and the sensor 2 is downstream of the catalytic converter. The O2 sensors are not difficult to replace - be sure to spray (soak) the old O2 sensor threads liberally with thread lubricant beforehand. Try the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website for the specific steps to replace the O2 sensor.
      Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.RockAuto.com or www.autopartswarehouse.com for the replacement parts.
      For example, they (Rock Auto) list the oxygen (O2) sensor (downstream) from around $58.00 for your vehicle.

      P2270 = 02 Bank 1 Sensor 2 signal stuck lean

      Possibilities;
      faulty O2 sensor

      The most common issues for lean codes are:

      1. Vacuum leaks - check for failed or loose vacuum lines, leaking intake gaskets, intake air tubes loose or any other source of un-metered air leaks (leaks after the Mass Air Flow Sensor)
      2. Restricted fuel filter or bent/pinched fuel system lines
      3. Incorrect input from other sensors, such as the Mass Air Flow Sensor, which may not always drop a separate code
      4. Engine misfire - Yes I know this one may seem weird. You might think that if there is a misfire then you will have all that unburned fuel and it should read rich; right? Well the O2 sensors read only oxygen content in the exhaust, so if you have all that unburned fuel from incomplete combustion then, you guessed it, you also have all that unburned oxygen. High O2 content in exhaust equals a lean reading!

    Mini one battery draining v quickly - only factory fitted alarm left on
    this is a mini one not a cooper but your website does not seem aware of this model! mileage 55000. the battery drains in a few days if the car is not used. at the last mot i asked for a check but no fault was found with the battery or the alternator.

    What is the expected water pump life expectancy, and is there a standard time it should be changed
    I had my water pump go out at approx 70,000 miles should it have been changed earlier?

      I seen water pumps leaking at 10,000 miles others last 150,000 miles.There its no maintenance u do to a water pump,other than checking the drive belts and replacing coolant.Coolant should be done on a regular basis, as per the manufacturer recommendations. Check your owners manual for the maintenance schedule.Clean coolant helps minimize corrosion inside cooling system.Dirty or contaminated coolant may cause the water pump seal to fail and cause a leak.
