Transmission from one Mercury to another
Would a transmission from a Mercury mountaineer go on a Mercury mariner 6 cyl 3.0L

No interchange - the Mountaineer is RWD (rear wheel drive) where the Mariner is FWD (front wheel drive) - two different transmissions

Stoplight switch directs current to the stop lights, cruise control, and shift interlock to turn them on or off.

Check the stop light switch and replace it as necessary.

Thank you for your reply. I was told that its likely the fuse to the stoplight switch has been blown, so I am going to replace the fuse first.

None of my lights are on. The car runs good at times but there are times when my car does not pick up speed.
The rpm goes above 3 or sometimes 4 when I hit the gas. It can take minutes before the car goes above 40mph. Sometimes it makes a noise as well. And sometimes it has a smell too. I took it to the shop and they said there was nothing wrong but I Know there is. Can ...

Been to Dealership Twice and I still have the same problem....
I though it was the transmission, here's why: 1). I press on the gas and the car does not accelerate. 2). 1st time this happened, I heard a "revving" - very slight at/or around the 60mph mark, driving 2 hours one day. 3). After an 80 mile roundtrip, pulling my ...

The vehicle needs a new transmission, there are two planetary gears, the forward and the reverse. The forward planetary gear is broken.

Vehicle has transmission problem. Vehicle will not go into reverse or drive. It has 234,000 miles.
Vehicle is not in good condition. Should I try to get it repaired or junk it. I understand it will cost a lot just to look at transmission.

Why would a 2003 vehicle not be in fairly good condition

The transaxle is done--so get rid of it I guess

It costs nothing to look at it
It costs $3,000 or more for the trans

A FEW quarts? How many exactly? Automatic transmissions are pretty sensitive to over- and under-filling. One quart difference from the recommended capacity can cause all sorts of issues. Your vehicle specifically takes 13.9 quarts. That is DRY fill. If the pan/drain plug is pulled, you're only going to get about a quarter of that amount out. I would follow the manufacturer's procedure as far as checking the fluid. Many cars have a different method of checking. some are okay to check cold and go by what's on the dipstick. Some, like mine, require driving the car so that everything is up to operating temp, parking on a level surface, and placing the selector in each position for three seconds, returning to park, waiting three minutes, then checking the fluid level.

      Good luck

Why dose my car hesitate when I push on gas to increase speed, skips real bad trying to increase speed to 40-55mp.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires
