Will a battery tender work that's plugged into the cigarette lighter or does it have to be clamped to the battery.
I think some vehicles have a cigarette lighter that times out so the battery tender has to be clamped to the battery. Car isn't driven much and keeps having a dead battery. Battery is new.

i don't think what your doing will work. I looked at your cigar lighter wiring, it appears the acc relay has to be energized. Besides the lighter I saw a front power outlet, they both get voltage from the same circuit.

Fix your problem properly. Make sure the battery has a full charge, then check your charging system. If excess drain with everything off, check for access amp draw. If too much much, pull/replace fuses one at a time, when you pull the fuse on the problem circuit, the access drain goes away. Check for lites left on, interior--under the hood, everywhere. Best time to check for that is in the dark. Sometimes a faulty alternator can let the battery drain.

Just replaced battery and Alternator, there is no parasitic drain. I can drive for a while but then the battery drains. could it be a faulty alternator or a loose ground? I can find a magic spot before I start the vehicle when my dash comes on and everything ...

I have a fill-in-the-blank question. If I'm spending $_____ per year on auto repairs, it's time to buy a new car. Thx
I drive a 1999 Lexus ES300 that has almost 150,000 miles. Everybody tells me a Lexus should go for 200-250K miles, but I'm starting to spend significant money on auto work (ignition coils, seals, etc). Please advise. Thanks for the help.

Nobody but you can answer this . How much do you love your car ? I have a 1971 Ford Bronco and think nothing to put a $1000 or $2000 in it at a time . But it's just a toy . You have to drive yours every day . Is it dependable ? Can you replace it for the repair cost ? What can you afford ? I own an older semi that I drive every day . A new one is over $120,000 . So to me a $10,000 brake down is no big deal . This is why you are the only one that can answer this . Sorry but hope this helps .

Typically, when the repair costs for a certain period; say over two to four years - exceed a percentage of buying a different vehicle - then you may consider another vehicle.

For example, for sake of mathematics - the repair costs total $15000 for the last four years. Then, at some threshold - maybe 85% of this cost - it would be helpful to consider replacement with another used vehicle. Please note these are only guidelines and not rules cast in stone - each buyers' circumstance is different.

Why does the headlights and radio flicker when I step on the brakes?
Every time I step on the brakes, the radio hesitates for a second or two and my headlight dim down for the same one or two seconds.

Not enough to go on, however, if you can duplicate this issue with a volt meter hooked to the battery to see if something odd is happening with the charging system.

The battery shoes a red dot and blue circle which it supposed to indicate a good battery, a red dot and white circle bad
the car is 2007 but only used on weekends . when I start the car with a charger and use it on weekends it run ok starts ok but when 5 days go by it won't start.

The indicator is NOT reliable. What is reliable is time. Your car is an '07. Batteries last 3 to 5 years on average. You need a battery. It is very degraded at this age of 6 + years. The fact that the car is only used on weekends actually shortens battery life.

    Air conditioning suddenly not working.
Hot air seems to be coming out of the a/c unit and around feet. If A/C is turned off usually I can enjoy the air outside on low - medium- or high (but it's still coming out warm.

If the system has a receiver/dryer check the eye glass for foamy freon which means it's low on refrigerant.Warm the engine to normal temp. place the a/c to coldest and the blower at the highest settings.Open the doors to be sure that the a/c does not cycle off as soon as it cools the passenger compartment. With the compressor engaged the clutch will make an audible click, inspect the sight glass and if the refrigerant looks foamy, it's low charge the system. If the refrigerant is clear, the compressor discharge line is warm and the inlet pipe is cool, the system is properly charged. If the system is low place a thermometer in the dash-board nearest to the evaporator and add refrigerant until the temperature is 40 to 45 deg.Generally the a/c temp. is 30 to 50 deg.cooler than the ambient temp.

It had happened with me while driving my work car on the freeway last year. It was quite a hot day and I had been driving for many hours at a stretch and it suddenly went kaput. After observation, we found out that the coolant levels were low and the cabin filter clogged. Many times radiator fluid is ignored by most people and they just check the refrigerant. Check all the given parameters and it should be good.

If my AC is working but just not very cold, does that mean I need to add antifreeze to the radiator? any specific type?
I have 185,000 mi on the car and live in San Diego. No warning lights are on and I just noticed that is is not as cold as it use to get. when I am driving

The radiator coolant (anti-freeze and water mixture) is a completely different system than the air-conditioning system.
The a/c system may just be low on the refrigerant charge; this is common - to have to add a slight amount of the R134a refrigerant periodically - perhaps every few years or cooling seasons - even with a properly operating a/c system.
Have the a/c system refrigerant charge level tested - usually most local a/c repair shops can perform a basic system performance test at little to no cost for you - check around in your area.

Why does my car squeal in reverse?
the vehicle has 180k. when cold, the car will make a grinding type noise when reversing and will immediately stop as the car is put in drive. after being driven for a while, the grinding noise will only come back on occasion until the next day.

Depends on whether the noise is coming from front or rear as to what it could be.A grinding noise is usually a wheel bearing hub assembly and metal on metal noise is brake pads/shoes.Brake pads/shoes have clips on em for a type of early warning system for failure.Only other thing on front would be a cv axle assembly
