I bent the tie rod on my ring & pinion. Can I replace the tie rod or do I have to replace the whole ring & pinion?
I think I have about 67,000 miles. It also has a 2.5" suspension lift and wheel spacers.

Are you referring to the front axle? If yes, then the tie rods are replaceable as separate items. Try the 'How-To-Guide' feature on the AutoMD website for the specific details to replace the tie rod end on the steering system.

Thanks a bunch, Jimm. I did manage to change it out and it wasn't all that difficult. Thanks again.

    My jeep shakes uncontrollably
When I am going interstate speeds (roughy 60+ mph) and hit a little bump my jeep shakes uncontrollably but keeps going straight and then goes away when I slow back down.

Try rotating the tires before you start replacing anything and see if anything changes. It is also likely that the steering damper needs to be replaced. It looks like a shock absorber turned sideways and attached to the steering.

    Got a deadly death wobble!
Around 50 mph I get a deadly death wobble on my wrangler. I had new u joints, shocks, stabilizer shock and had all the tires balanced and rotated. Nothing has helped...

Check the track bar for looseness. Does it have a lift kit and larger tires?
      7/24/2012 mari
Yes it came with a 3 inch lift kit and 33s. Shakes violently in the front part of the vehicle going 50mph. Sometimes slowing down will stop it other times I have to pull off the road!

Elaborate more about what you feel when the wobble starts. Does the whole vehicle seem to shake or is it primarily originating from the front of vehicle? The u-joints you mentioned, which ones, the ones in the rear and front driveshaft to each differential from the transfer case or the ujoints that are positioned at the outer ends of the front drive axles? Because the front drive axles are known for u-joints becoming frozen and causing a violent shake sometimes.
      7/24/2012 mari
The shake is in the front two tires. it starts at 50 and all I have to do is slow down and it will stop, other times I have to pull off the road. The shaking is violent I can feel the wheel leave the road... Extremely scary! I replaced the outter front u joints and then put on new sway bar bushing. Nothin helps. I had the alignment checked and surprising everything was ok.

Check the straightness / trueness of both front wheels while they are spinning on a wheel balancer. What size tires on there?

Make sure the lift kit brackets are not loose at the track bar. Check out the site below.

I truly believe that the single *stock* stabalizer shock might be insufficient to dampen out the desire for these large, oversize tires on this relatively light Jeep to want to shimmy at 50 mph.

I have the same problem of shaking from the front of the vehicle but on a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo 6Cyl4.0L - Just bought it last week. I've already spent almost $2,000 in new brakes, new fuel pump, computer. I am a woman and driving it with trembling and slipping on the pedal makes me nervous. Does anyone know what's happening? What repair shop can I take it here in Miami that are good for fixing Cherokees? Thank you. Mily
      7/18/2012 RC
Mil, Take it back to the shop that performed the work. Also, you should open a separate question so others can easily see it.

Thanks, I will open it as a separate question.
A guy that said he was a mechanic performed the work.
I'm taking it to a mechanic.

Could also check the steering damper. looks kind of like a shock that runs parallel with the ground.
      7/20/2012 Mil
Thanks for the tip, I'll have that checked!

Tires not flat, what could possibly cause my Jeep to lean way too low on the front pass. and too high at opposite rear??
When driving or standing in front of my jeep it is visibly noticeable as well as when looking at opposite rear tire
    • Sheldon
      7/16/2012 Sheldon
Cody check your suspention parts on said side. in particular look for a busted strut spring or broken or worn sway arm components. The sagging front corner will cause the opposite corner of the vehicle to have an opposite appearance.

are you talking about the drive shaft or the axle?either one is not to bad to remove the axle you have to remove the brake caliber and pads.remove the nut in the center of the axle and simply pull it out.

If by rattle you mean front end shake AKA (DEATH WOBBLE) your stabilizer is bad.It is the item that looks like a shock on the steering assembly under the front of your jeep.It can also be other front end items going bad.A little slop in all your front end parts will contribute to this.I would replace stabilizer first and go from there.
