I just purchased a used 2004 Jeep with 100k miles.
Although it is in excellent shape It does not have maintenance records. To whom should I go and for what should I ask. I am willing to spend the $$ to get it right but don't want to be ripped off.

Best way to start with a used vehicle - with or without maintenance records - is to change all fluids and filters; engine oil and filter, cooling system, transmission fluid and filter (if equipped), brake fluid change, power steering system, rear differential. These are inexpensive and will establish a baseline for the maintenance schedule. Start with the most expensive components;the engine and transmission.

Another bit of advise - purchase a repair manual; Haynes, Chilton, etc. and become familiar with routine inspections and repairs. Read the owners manual and repair manual first - so you become familiar with the vehicle - and are not taken by surprise.

Have a trusted and reputable repair shop perform the vehicle inspection. The inspection should cover all systems; inside and out - of the vehicle; engine, brakes, transmission, steering, suspension, air-conditioning,heating and cooling, etc. You should be presented with a written report when the inspection is completed.
Most repair shops will perform this task for a small cost.

I just purchased a used 2004 jeep in excellent shape but no maintenance records.
I would like to have it looked at to determine what maintenance it might need. To whom should I go and for what do I asked. I don't want to get ripped off but am not afraid to spend some money to get it right.

Are my u-joints bad? ping and clunking noise after letting off the brakes from a complete stop
I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I think the rear U Joints may be going. I've already been told the front ones need changing, but the guy that was going to fix them said it was too rusted and he couldn't get them off. Now, I'm concerned the rear ones are bad. ...

Yes sounds like U-joints, flipping over, not likely but when joints fail usually since there is 4 sets of bearings, if going to high rpms it could mess up your drive line, you will still have your brakes. Don't know your driving habits and how much you push the rpms and how far you drive.

If the lite first comes on when you just turn the key to on, maybe it's just a bulb check? Should go out when you start the engine. How long since a tune-up? Are there any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. May not be any codes? I can't tell if something wrong or you just need to change oil and oil filter? Do you have an owners manual for this vehicle?

Battery gauge dies one time, perfect the next for past week. Now no running speedometer or rpm gauge.
Every other time I drive, it dies or runs at perfect 14 on gauge. Last night after dying, sat for 1 hr than ran perfect for 25 mile drive...except no RPM or speedometer gauge working. Could it be a sensor or computer cable related? One time it went completely down ...

You can only do what your owners manual says

In Canada you are required to have the headlights on
for the last 30 plus years

If your asking about the fog lights -- say so

For those you would have to design your
own wiring if they come on with the head lights off
      & motor running

What draws electricity all the time on this vehicle?
I have replaced battery, not that. Has 130,000 + miles. Trouble traced to leg with 50 amp fuse in relay box under hood but can't find which circut from there is causing problem. If car not driven every day battery goes completely dead.

Figured it out myself guys, thanks. The old "O rings" were still stuck on there, once I saw my new ones had them and the old ones didn't, I pried them off and they fit right in.
