Well I would say most likely it's your battery, your alternator (an indirect cause of a battery problem) or your starter motor. Before you can say for sure can you give me some more details? For example when you turn the key to start it do you hear any noises? Does everything else function normally (eg: radio comes on, dash lights, etc)?

start by checking for fuel and spark. you have either no fuel getting to the engine or no spark being produced in the ignition system. first try listening for the fuel pump, take off the gas cap and have someone turn the key forward not to crank just forward the fuel pump should cycle on and you will hear it. If you do not hear it then this could be a fuel pump problem. Also check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail if you have fuel pressure then check for spark, you can get a spark tester at an autoparts store for cheap.

Where is this fuel rail located and how do you check it?
      Thanks for the reply.
    • Bobby
      9/10/2010 Bobby
I looked a little more int your honda, there is no regular hookup to check for fuel pressure rather the best way to check for fuel pressure is to remove the fuel line going to the fuel rail. First cycle the key, meaning move it to the on position, do you hear the fuel pump coming on when you do this? If not then brak losse the bolt at the fuel rail that connects the main fuel line to the fuel rail, then cover with a rag while you loosen to catch the fuel. If no fuel comes out then the fuel pump is possibly the problem, from there you will want to test for voltage going to the fuel pump if there is voltage then the problem is probably the fuel pump.

OK, can hear the fuel pump cycle, changed plugs, roter, cap, tested coil was good, tested ignition module but still put on new one. Still no spark when you take the plug out to see.

if cranks over faster than normal it sounds like a broken timing belt pull top part of timing cover have someone see if pulleys move when it's cranked over it also has an inner balancer shaft belt it will be a F22B6 or a F23A1 or F23A4 or F23A5 or a F23A7 motor it is also a INTERFERENCE ENGINE if the timing belt broke with the moter running it may have bent valves does the dist. shaft turn when engine is cranked ?

Leaking oil on side engine near timing belt pulleys
Hi; I just replaced the timing belt sets and water pump about 5 months ago on my '96 honda prelude that has 113kmiles. The shop sais there are oil on the side of the engine which means the timing cam-shaft seal is leaking and will contaminate and break the belt. ...

I don't think it will have a problem opening it by you as long that you can fit and seal it back properly. But best this should be done in a mechanic shop so it will be directly correct the problem and will prevent further damage.

The number 1 cause of hard starting and stalling and not starting and bucking / jerking on 89 Honda is a bad distributor, not just the cap and rotor, the entire distributor. Its not the fuel pressure regulator, save your money.

If the fuel pump is good, I would lean toward an ignition problem. Since the engine will not start, have you checked for spark? Did you replace the distributor cap and rotor?

I had a very similar problem and it was the fuel pressure regulator. Had it replaced and haven't had any problems since.

Yes I had the the distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs. So now its between something with the ignition It the fuel pressure regulator then? Ill try the regulator first...

Can an air conditioner be installed into a 1992 Honda Civic...Where can I have it done and how much will it cost?

Yes it can be installed with A/C....the price.....expensive i mean you have to buy the whole enchilada. Compressor, Evap, Condenser, Fan, Drier filter....the complete set, then the routing of the tubes.

I cant give you an exact estimate but prepare more than a thousand bucks for it.

      14.5 amperes is the output

Now, do you have a sound system installed on your vehicle? (I mean a-bit-serious sound system?) If no, just get those 80 ampere alternators

If yes, get 100 and above.

Go to autopartswarehouse.com, they have a complete line for your ride

If the engine is cranking over normally, then you need to verify spark and fuel.
