My 02 Chrysler 300 intermittently won't start. When this happens, all dash lights come on,everything seems to work, but the starter won't engage. We replaced the starter a few months ago thinking that would solve the problem, but it's started happening again. The ...

There is a large amount of oil on top of and around the driver side valve cover head.
I have a 1999 3.6l 300m. There is a large amount of oil on and around the driver side valve cover head. First thought was a bad gasket, but the whole top of the head is covered with oil. If it was the gasket I would think there would be one or two places where ...

If you think the gasket is an issue, replace it. Also, check crankcase pressure system/pcv. If too much pressure in the crankcase it can force oil out anywhere and everywhere.

With a warmed up engine at idle, can you check blow-by?

Thanks. I think you're right that it is a PCV issue causing the engine to vent into the engine compartment. Even some cables between the expansion tank and manifold have oil on them. I'm sure there is blowby due to the car’s age, but a ring job is too expensive for what the car is worth. I looked at the PCV hose and it appears to be kinked and has oil on it. Strange thing is it is on opposite side of block as is the oil fill. I'm trying to find source, but will replace valve and hose to start.

Why does my minivan cough, sputter, and die while driving? It can happen at any time with no discernible pattern to it
We have replaced the pvc valve and the air filter. We have cleaned the air control valve. We even replaced the battery, in case the cause was a short in the battery. So far, nothing has helped. The check engine light comes on sometimes, but it doesn't stay on all ...

      A. FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
      1996 Chrysler Truck Town & Country 2WD 3.8L MFI 6cyl
      The Fuel System Pressure

49 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch)Remove the ground cable from the negative battery post and also remove the fuel tank filler cap and the service valve cover shield. Attach the fuel release tool onto the fuel rail test port, then place the open end into a suitable gasoline container and proceed to bleed down the pressurized fuel system.Remove the fuel release tool and replace with a fuel pressure test gauge. Reconnect the battery ground cable, and place the ignition in the run position.Utilize a scan tool to energize the fuel pump. This will bring the system to a stabilized fuel pressure that can be visually verified on the gauge.
If the fuel system pressure isn't in the criteria, replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter.

When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to.

Yes, as an emission component in the exhaust stream providing sensory feedback - a faulty oxygen sensor ca cause poor engine performance and lower fuel mileage.

Check these various on-line vendors; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.RockAuto.com, www.partsgeek.com, to list only a few. For example, they (RockAuto) list the oxygen sensors (upstream or downstream of the converter) from around $16.00 each for your vehicle.

Use the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website for the specific replacement steps - the O2 sensors are easily replaced. Be sure to always replace in pairs or sets (i.e; both upstream and downstream, left side and right sides, etc) due to age / mileage / wear considerations.
