Have your steering rack checked. It can be shot already. It is also possible that the leak is coming from that area. Check the hoses from your reservoir to the rack.

I recommend have your vehicle scanned for trouble code to determine the faulty parts. Visit any parts shops that offers free computer scanning to retrieve the DTC.

When i let out of the clutch to start the car i hear this crickety spring type sound that fades away.
but i notice that if im a little jerky with the start it feels and sounds like a spring rocking me back and forth from a dead stop. also if i go slow over like a speed bumb i notice a little thud. this also happens if i put my clutch in and brake off like the ...
    • Nissan Technical Advisor
Check the battery for proper charge. The thud you are experiencing could be cause of worn CV / U - joints or the engine's idle speed may be set too high.

What’s wrong with your strut mount? You can use the Diagnose feature of AutoMD if you have a problem with your vehicle.

I was at the dealer about a leak and they said the rake & pinion needed to be replace. What do I need to do now?
I need to try to fix it as cheap as possible because I have put too much $ in this car all ready
    • HouseCallAuto

Well I would not have Cadillac do it because the cost will be the most of anybody but I would get a second opinion on the cause of the leak and another estimate. Don't tell the next shop you go to that Cadillac said the R&P is bad or else they will simply agree and not do their own determination of the cause of your leak.
      9/21/2010 jack
Thanks! If it is the R&P can most shops replace it right? What is the best site to go on to find the part if it is the R&P?
    • HouseCallAuto
9/22/2010 HouseCallAuto is a great site. When you look for the rack and pinion you have to know whether your CTS has or does not have soft-ride suspension. The three digit code is FE1. If this FE1 code is present on the service parts decal somewhere in your car (truck spare cover or glove box usually) then you do have it. If it is not there you do not have it. Here >> this will help >>

Suncore has rear shock conversion kits for this car for less than $300.00 you can buy direct from Suncore or buy them a little cheaper on Ebay because Suncore sells on Ebay I went with the self pump up shocks so I can adjust the ride to either a soft ride or a harder ride.
      good luck

Rear of car is completely down would replacing the original shocks with conversion self pump up shocks cure the problem
I do know the original electronic shocks are not working possibly due to either the ride control module or the built in compressor not working I already decided to replace the shocks with Suncore self pump up air shocks as I don't have the nescary fault finding ...

there are aftermarket solutions available that replace the air suspension.
    • Richard Edwards
      9/15/2010 Richard Edwards
      Hi Oxides,
Thanks for the answer I have already ordered a set of aftermarket self pump up air shocks from Suncore that come with a set of resistors that apparently stop any messages on the dashboard, they should arrive today my query is if just replacing the shocks will cure the problem, as I alway's believed the springs held the car up and the shocks controlled the bounce as I mentioned in the main part of my question. I went with self pump up shocks so I can regulate the ride much in the same way as the original shocks did, as having such a large trunk I have overloaded the trunk in the past to the extent the the exhaust dragged as I drove out of a gas station with a sharp slope, I also have a house in Indiana that I am renovating as best I can (so I can sell my house in Oklahoma and get rid of the mortgage freeing up what little money my wife and I get from Social Security disability also it is alot cooler in the area of Indiana I own the house in summer heat in Oklahoma is getting too much for me) and have carried alot of hand machine tools etc., to work on the house there infact it was that last trip that made me realise I had a problem because I was blinding drivers coming the other way with my headlights on low beam making me stop and readjust them. In the past I used my old 1990 Chevy truck but it finally gave up on me after 468,000 miles making the Cadillac my only vehicle.

    Power steering fluid is leaking
Every day I need to add power steering fluid, otherwise I can't turn my car
    • Richard Edwards
      9/15/2010 Richard Edwards
My best suggestion to you is to get the leak fixed because if it is leaking as fast as having to top up daily you could end up burning out the power steering pump or worse yet having the fluid get on the exhaust pipe and catching the car on fire I have seen alot of Cadillacs in the scrap yards that have caught fire under the hood, I do know there is a recall on the fuel lines on the 1994 through 1996 which may have been the cause, but thin power steering fluid is very flammable.
      Good luck,
      Richard Edwards
