10/12/2014 JimmCould be oil residue building up in the coolant. Can you take a picture of the gunk? You can also get this by mixing colors of antifreeze. The only exception being the orange stuff that states on the container that it can mix with other types. Mixing green with red for example will cause it to gel and make some nasty build up. A small gap in your head gasket going between a coolant passage and oil passage can cause this too. It is possible to blow a head gasket and not have a performance or smoke issue, all depends on where the gasket blows through. While most common to blow between cylinders because of the combustion pressures, it is entirely possible to have a head gasket issue that doesn't involve cylinder seal.
Before jumping the gun. Drain your cooling system, remove the thermostat and reinstall the upper hose connection / thermostat housing. Then use a hose to flush through the upper radiator hose and let it run out the engine. through the lower hose. Flush out your radiator too.

10/9/2014 JimmFirst step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.
Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)
Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:
Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
