why will i have to run a wire to my fuel pump from my battery for my car to start

Now for a real answer. Sounds like a bad fuel pump relay.

Drum roll please.............Survey says ..........bad main relay. As you may know, the main relay in a Honda (located behind the driver side instrument panel is a dual function relay. It is not referred to as a fuel pump relay (but technically Joe is right). the Honda main relay supplies battery voltage to the fuel injection and the fuel pump circuits separately but from within the main relay. the main relay is actually two relays in one.
