1999 Chevrolet C1500 LS 8 Cyl 5.7L

Engine

I just put in a new starter. I followed the directions and started the engine, cut it off, started it, cut it off.

The third time I started the engine, the started just kept running, so I disconnected the neg. battery terminal. When I connected it back, I don't get power to the starter and the dash gauges aren't working... What is wrong? Fuses or relay or what???

Yeah check any fuses related to the starting and instrument/cluster circuit. It almost sounds like youve got a wire thats loose on the starter and/or maybe the vibration is causing a loose wire to touch metal/block/or chassis maybe causing a short.Plus Im assuming this started happening after you replaced starter. If so then you know its happenin because of something you recently repaired

If the starter stayed engaged then you have problem with starter.
