What is the plinking noise underneath

When I start to pull away from house sometimes I get a plinking noise like I put a dent in an old fashioned oil can and then popped it back out. Sometimes this happens after pulling in to a parking lot or again at home. I think it has something to do with gas tank or heat shield or brackets or something?

The best way to eliminate the exhaust system heat shields is to lay under the truck and bang upward in several spots on the exhaust pipe, catalytic converters and listen for that noise you know so well. If after all the banging you are not hearing it, it likely is not the exhaust heat shields causing it and you have to look elsewhere.
