1987 Chevrolet P30 Base 8 Cyl 6.20L

Transmissions & Drivetrains

My P30 is the base of a 23 foot Itasca RV. It is sticking in low gear over 45 mph, have tried fluid booster

Since yesterday after noon the P-30 has been sticking in the lower gear. It has about 55K miles on the engine and was used primarily as an RV in Washington State for fishing trips. I have taken it for a family trip 750 miles away to San Francisco Bay area. Last night we tried AAA roadside service, who didn't know how to even check the fluid on the vehicle, he transferred us to AAA approved garage who wouldn't touch it because they weren't "RV guys". We went to Napa Auto parts and the guy directed us on how to open the inside hatch in the cab to check the transmission fluid, which was full. He recommended removing 1 quart of fluid and replacing with 24 oz of Lucas Transmission Fix. We did this by syphoning off approx 1 quart of the fluid and then adding the full 24 oz bottle of the Lucas Transmission Fix, then topping it off with about 2-3 oz of transmission fluid. Back on the road, the RV only ran for about ten minutes properly at 55 MPG, then slipped back into the lower gear.

Failed Transmission

No Manufacture will ever recommend Lucus
or ANY Product to be added to any trans

That is NOT a FIX for anything

Once they slip they have been doing so for
some time & have to be rebuilt

This was the first problem I encountered and my second long trip with the vehicle.

Lucas Transmission Fix has 28 glowing reviews on Amazon. All these people have had great results with it. And there are no negative remarks which would be common with a product like this if it didn't work.

Teddy B is correct - no amount or type of transmission fluid additive or elixar can replace or fix; sticking solenoids, worn clutch packs, worn bands, sticking valve body spools, or any number of other possible hydraulic or mechanical issues with transmissions.

Not saying any of these items are issues you specifically have with your transmission - just generally speaking, it's a waste of time and money to expect any transmission fluid additive to 'restore' or 'fix' transmissions and transmission performance.

Glowing reviews from Amazon come from people that
have no first hand experience actually diagnosing vehicle
problems

None of them have ever personally removed a transmission
& than take one apart, to examine or make repairs

People believe marketing & product labeling advertising &
tv adds

Jimms elixar-- I refer to as a Genie In A Bottle, such as pitched by
Gypsies in the 1800's

Lucas does however provide lots of money from mom & dad to
keep son Morgan Lucus NHRA top fuel dragster running

I would be concerned, when you stop at shops that do not know
or care to find out how to open a hood & help you
