Engine

Mechanic says timingbelt broke and bent the pistons on the engine. ? Is it better to fix it, or replace the engine?

Paid $2,500 2yrs ago. have spent $2,400 in repairs. bought with odometer broken, so not sure of real mileage (243,000). the Mechanic says it will cost about $2,000 to fix. Body in excellent shape.
Is it worth fixing it or get a whole new engine. How much does a new engine cost? Plus to have it installed?
