2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally 4 Cyl 2.00L

Transmissions & Drivetrains

Issue shifting into 2 4 and reverse

So I just got done putting my car back together. I replaced the input shaft bearing and all the seals. I didn't touch anything else. So I just drove it and noticed that it doesn't want to go into second forth or reverse. I did notice that when I was putting the shifter cable linkage back on that the bigger bushing is shot there's quite a bit of play in it. Could that b the problem cuz I didn't touch anything else in the transmission just what needed to be replaced. It's an manual transmission 5 speed. F5M42 is the numbers on the case. Any input will help out allot. Thanks for your time

Yes, that worn shifter bushing is most likely the issue. Go ahead and replace it, and also check the shifter cable and linkage positioning - adjust as necessary.

Thanks. Also I found out that there was a adjustment on the shifter linkage bracket so I did that and now it's perfect no issues. I was really worried that something in the trans was messed up but everything looked great in there besides the input shaft bearing and seal. Iam glad this was easy and cost hardly nothing
