2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 6 Cyl 3.00L

Body & Interior

Ingition Switch/ Lock Cylinder Malfunction.

So I accidently put the wrong key in my car the other day. I thought I had turned on its theft mode when it wouldnt start. However, when i jiggled the key a certain way the car would start. Sometimes it Would start fine multiple times in a row and sometimes it took forever to get started. Now it wont start no matter what I try and the key has a hard time moving. The lights come on when I turn the key. I hear a click in the dash when I try to start the car but its not cranking or starting. Do you think the switch was messed up first and then the lock cylinder was damaged in the process for trying to start it. Can I replace both? Will I have to get another key re programmed or can I can a lock cylinder to match my key. Any Information is appreciated thank you.

Replace the ignition switch / lock cylinder with a new one (comes with the keys matched).

The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.
