2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Base 4 Cyl 2.2L

Transmissions & Drivetrains

I inadvertently shifted my transmission into reverse from neutral going downhill. What kind of damage did I do?

I was coming down a hill at 20 MPH in a snowstorm and had the car in neutral. I accidentally shifted into reverse and it stalled out. I restarted it and was able to get home. I was also able to drive it around most of the day. It growled one time but when I got onto the highway and gave it gas, the growling stopped (we had 4 inches of snow). What damage might I have done?

Most newer cars have a safety built in, how ever you may have worn a clutch pack down or lost some teeth on a gear, I would suggest having it inspected at a transmission shop.
