At an idle when hot and dies

Started the other night. Was waiting for someone and the engine was running at an idle. Then it started to sputter and it was getting hot, yet never died. My wife went to go somewhere and got around the corner from the house and the van sputtered and died. I went to her and tried it and it would not start at all. Waited a few hours and tried it again, didn't start. Tried a little later and it started. Today we were at an idle and it started to do it again and it died. Had to wait 30 mins. to an hour before it would start. We only have one vehicle, and a 9 month old. When I went and opened the hood the engine was hot and I mean HOT. I have pressure in the hoses but don't know what else is going on. If you can help that would be great. If it's better to talk on the phone you can call me at (316) 789-4191. Thank you, - Daryl
