How to rotate the engine to access the torque converter / flexplate studs?

Have replaced the flexplate due to damaged teeth, and have been able to install and torque only two (2) of the four (4) flexplate-to-torque converter nuts. Problem is, now I'm unable to rotate the engine by hand - using a 17mm 1/2" drive short socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt - as I did previously. It feels as if the engine will not turn by hand due to a slight glaze inside the cylinder walls - or some other restriction.
Is there another method to turn the engine (rotate) crankshaft to position the remaining two torque converter studs in the transmission access hole? Basically, I have to turn the engine from it's current clock position - to 180 and 270 degrees - from the 6 o'clock index point. I have the factory shop manual and the instructions are vague at this step.
