Why does my heater not warm up?

My vehicle has at least 180,000 miles and the heater is not working like it use to, it does not get warm. When I first turn on the hearter the smell of radiator fluid fills the cabin of the truck. This started this pass winter. Their are no other problems.

sounds like you need to replace the heater core. Is the coolant leaking?

I don't see any coolant leaking and do you know if a heater core is a DIY job or do I have to take it to a shop?

This is not an easy DIY job. Make sure the coolant is flowing through the core.

The coolant thermostat temperature could be low or the heater coolant valve might not be opening.
