1995 Jeep Wrangler (YJ) Sahara 6 Cyl 4.0L

Engine

trying to figure out why my jeep wont start properly

battery ok
starter seems ok too
distributor cap newly replaced less than 1 year ago
took an extended time to start ... then as was driving off
Jeep just conked out.
when you try to start it ... you do smell some gas
is it igniting? is it a sensor? Please HELP :)

If the engine is cranking over and not starting, you need to check for spark and fuel. Chances are you are missing one or the other. If there is no spark and the tune up parts are good, then you could have a bad camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. If you have spark, check to see if it runs on starting fluid. If so, then you could just have a bad fuel pump.

I kinda figured that out from what I read ... where would I put the starting fluid?

& I cannot seem to find the exact location of the crankshaft position sensor ... I looked earlier :)

You spray the starting fluid into the engine through the air cleaner assembly. Just open up the air filter assembly as if you were to replace the air filter and spray starting fluid into the intake as someone is cranking the engine over. The crankshaft position sensor should be located on the transmission bell housing on this engine.
