Possible causes of excess oil consumption in a 2003 VW Jetta wagon, after only approx. 2000 miles since last oil change?
NO signs of oil leaks, burning of oil during driving, or other 'conceivable' causes have been noted!
The only possible cause I could imagine might have been letting the Jetta idle in the
driveway one very cold morning (ice on the windshield) for too long (almost 40 minutes, in fact!).
I became distracted for a few minutes by other matters, forgetting to turn the engine off
after what I intended would be only a few minutes of warming the car up, on a very frosty morning.
Might this excessive warmup idling have been a cause of such excessive oil consumption in this case, or not?
I didn't realize the engine could have run 2 qts low on oil, when this happened, until the oil pressure warning light on the dash suddenly flashed and chimed the other day. I immediately added
2 full qts of oil at that point, but NO other signs or symptoms have I noted that might have caused this problem, since the oil was changed 4 months ago.
