1995 Mercury Grand Marquis GS 8 Cyl 4.60L

Engine

Engine stalls at idle.

When stopped at a light for instance.

Engine will be running strong and smooth. If the light is longer than about three minutes the engine will stall if left in gear. If shifted to neutral engine will run very rough after the same time frame but, usually not stall.

Seems to be worse in colder weather.

sounds like an engine control issue, possibly a temperature sensor or maf sensor, let the car idle and try unplugging the maf sensor and see if the car steadies itself. That might tell you ts the maf sensor. Also I know of a problem with these 4.6l motors they have a vacuum t-valve toward the back of the motor behind the plenum its just a small hard plastic t pipe/ valve that can crack and cause this problem. check for that

I agree with Bobby. You are describing a vacuum leak and yes it would be worse when cold.
