2008 Ford Ranger XL 6 Cyl 4.00L

Engine

Engine intermittently stalls

My engine will suddenly stall and may not start again for several hours but then will start again and run fine for a while! I've changed plugs and wires and the crankshaft position sensor! I just purchased a fuel pump and filter and will replace both of these! Just wondering what I should try next if this doesn't work?

Do not simply replace parts - too costly. Diagnose and test / inspect to pinpoint the issue.

Check the following items first; engine vacuum lines (check for cracked / broken / damaged), engine air intake leaks, fuel pressure (measure is two locations: at the fuel pump and at the fuel rail), measure the engine vacuum at idle - should be 19-21" Hg (with a steady gauge needle), intake manifold seal gaskets may be leaking, dirty mass air flow sensor (spray clean using MAF-specific aerosol), dirty throttle body - to list only a few.

Is there any check engine light on? If not, have the CEL scanned anyway for stored fault codes - for free at any local auto parts stores.
