Can you use an electric fuel pump in place of existing fuel pump in fuel tank? How many lbs pressure at the head?

Periodically, acts like lack of fuel and won't start. After sitting an hour it usually will start back up.

The existing fuel pump in the tank is an electrically-operated fuel pump, and not the engine mounted mechanical type. You can mount an external fuel pump - but you would have to first remove the existing fuel pump from inside the fuel tank to run a straight fuel line / fuel pickup - in its place.
If you are going to remove the fuel pump which is already inside the fuel tank, then why not replace that one - with a new one? Much less difficulty, headache and expense in the long run. Be sure to also replace the in-line fuel filter at the same time.
Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autoparts warehouse.com or www.rockauto.com - to list only two. For example, they (RockAuto) list the replacement fuel pump from around $53.00 for your vehicle. The in-line fuel filter is listed for around $2.00 - same source.
