Most likely the issue is a faulty neutral safety switch / range sensor. The neutral safety switch is mounted on the outside of the transmission housing - near / next to the shift lever. This switch is very easy to replace. Try the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website for the specific steps to replace the neutral safety switch.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse, or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the neutral safety switch / range sensor from around $9.00 for your vehicle.

Could it also be the gear-shift lever needing adjustment and it's affecting the positioning of the neutral/safety switch as it's moved from P to N?
