2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 4 Cyl 2.40L

Engine

Daughter ran the car with little or no oil in it, now the car has a ticking noise. Should we get rebuilt heads for it ?

The car is a 2001 chevy cavalier z-2.4, has about 80,000 miles

usually if you get that ticking noise it'll most likely be the rod or main bearings on the bottom end. they are pretty cheap to buy. labor is whats going to kill you thou, they'll probably have to pull the motor

Another possibility is that low oil quantity would cause the oil to run hot and it would possibly gum up the lifters. you can add Seabreeze additive or other oil additive or just put in a quart of auto transmission oil in with the engine oil and it will usually stop the ticking if the lifters are the culprits.
