is the clutch burnt out I have a manual transmission in my mb. With the engine running I can shift into any gear and never press the clutch. Its almost like the shift assembly cables have stretched or the clutch isnt releasing. Nothing gets power to my tires |

Ray 10/12/2017 Unfortunately, Jimm's reply is a canned response. Do not replace the master and slave until you know what is wrong with the vehicle.

Jimm 10/12/2017 Canned response? Hardly, just simple steps - check the brake fluid level, then check the clutch master and slave cylnders, before replacing the clutch assembly. |

HouseCallAuto 10/12/2017 Let me just say this, If the shifter feels the same as it always has in the past, like the same amount of effort to move the shifter in between the gears and you can clearly see that the shifter is going into each gear position (including reverse) and there is no grinding sound (especially in first or reverse), then it is fairly safe to say that the transmission is not spinning it's mainshaft, and if the mainshaft is not spinning then that means there is no connection between the engine, flywheel and transmission. Well that only leaves the clutch really. At this point it does not absolutely guarantee that the clutch is the cause but it does mandate that the tranny or the clutch is the cause and that means removing the transmission at the very least. Bottom line is you likely have a blown up clutch disc, and if the scenario I describe is what you have, then its not a clutch master or a slave that is the cause. I would be ordering a clutch kit and flywheel from RockAuto.com |

Jimm 10/12/2017 First step - check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder, and refill as necessary. The clutch master and slave hydraulic cylinders uses the brake fluid to operate. |
