Check-engine light comes on, what does it mean?

Auto Zone read code from the "check-engine light flashes" (1-2-3-5-1-3-5-5), looked it up and said it was the electric axillary fan relay. I bought and installed one, but didn't fix the problem. Light still on and relay still doesn't kick on. I popped the cap off the old relay, forced contact and the fan ran fine, but when I broke the contact, the fan stops. The fan worked fine up til now. Is there like a heat censer before the relay OR could there be something else I need to be looking for?

Tell me what problems you are trying to find the fix for please. I understand you have two codes, 35 and 13 which is auxiliary fan relay and map sensor but I want some details.
