1989 Jeep Cherokee Base 6 Cyl 4.00L

Engine

what would be causing it to over heat

i put a new water pump and thermastat on thinking that would stop the over heating but it didnt work so what would be making it over heat still

Could be the fan clutch not cooling the radiator enough. I'm guessing this has a clutch fan and not electrical fans. If it is electrical fans then check those to make sure they are kicking on. . Next the radiator could be clogged, last and worse but the engine would run rough and you would see thick white smoke from the exhaust is a blown headgasket
