why does my car warning lights (except "check" light) stay on when I am driving?

I first noticed the problem after an interior detail job at a car wash where they washed the interior/carpets. About two hours later, I noticed while I was driving the warning lights would come on and stay on. I drove home and the next day I drove to work (14m). On my way from work, the car slowed down, the antilock light came on for the first time and the radio and dash lights went out and the car stopped in the middle of the road. It would not start right away. After a few minites, it started and I drove it for a few yards and it stopped again in the same manner. I called AAA to tow car to home. When I started the car at home, this time it did not start even though the warning lights came on as usual. This car has worked well for me all these years. This is a first.

Even if your check engine light if off you should verify if there is a stored trouble code. You can check out this link http://www.extreme-check-engine-light-codes.com... to have an idea how to extract stored trouble code in your vehicle since it is equipped with OBD I.

It may be the alternator. I have found when all lights are on except check engine that is the source. I took my car to a local AutoZone and had them test it and sure enough it was the issue.
