Why does my car squeak like power steering problem?

My Buick makes a noise like the power steering system is messed up. Could it be the serpentine belt? What other issues could the belt cause-transmission shifting, etc?

There are several possibilities; worn/faulty drive belt, worn belt tensioner, power steering pump pulley misaligned, worn idler pulley - to name only a few.

Have you already raised the hood and examined for the source of the noise? Do this at startup with the engine cold.

Try these various on-line auto parts sources; www.autopartsanything.com, www.rockauto.com, www.partsgeek.com - to list only a few.

Neglecting to replace the tensioner and pulley(s) at the same time you replace the belt can ultimately shorten the life of the belt as well as other front-end accessory belt-driven components.

For example, RockAuto lists the belt drive component kit (belt, idler pulley, belt tensioner) from around $103.00 for your vehicle.
