Why does my car skip when I use my turn signal?

My car is a 6 speed stick shift. When the car is warmed up and I'm driving with cruise control on, if I use my turn signal it kicks the cruise control off and causes the car to "miss" as if it's a fuel pump issue or bad gas. When I'm driving without using cruise control and use the turn signal it still creates a "miss". I have been careful to make sure I did not do anything to turn the cruise control off - did not touch brake or shift gears. I believe I have ruled out the 'bad gas' cause. It is happening more often as time goes on.... first it only happened when I used the right turn signal... not it happens with both left and right. I believe it's an electrical problem. Help ! Thank you.

Hello
Is your check engine light coming on when it skips? Setting miss fire codes? This is the strangest thing I have heard of. If I had to guess I would say that when you are using the directional ,you are obviously turning the steering wheel and possibly you might have a bad connection at the clock spring area.
Hope this helps

Thanks Joe. This has been happening when I'm driving on highways and changing lanes to pass and return to the right hand lane so I'm not turning sharply, just a shallow turn. I took it to the garage today, and of course, they couldn't replicate the issue. I don't believe the check engine light ever came on.... I'll have to watch it next time. I feel like a detective. ;-) I'll let you know when I find the root cause of this problem. What are "miss fire codes"? thanks, Deanne

You did not answer my question ,Is the check engine light coming on when it skips? You may have two separate problems here. I am trying to eliminate that possibility. There may be an issue with the EGR system.

Joe, I don't believe that the check engine light came on when it happens.... I'll have to take my car out for a long drive to re-create the issue. When I do that, I'll pay attention to the check engine lite and get back to you on this site. I'm retired and don't drive as much as I used to... However, I've been taking some longer trips (300 to 400 miles) lately. Thank you so much Joe.

Hello Deanne
I do not know exactly where you are located but here in the north east rodents can be a problem this time of year. they like to nest in cars and chew wiring. I am not saying that is your problem but it is just a thought.

Joe, I know about that issue in the northeast - used to live in PA south of Pittsburgh - and experienced that problem with a tractor; However, I live in Richmond, VA and my car has always been garage kept where rodents have not been a problem. I did find that someone with a Toyota had a similar problem and it was related to the grounding of the cruise control and signal wires. I'll continue to pay attention to all the symptoms. Thanks again for your responses. deanne
