2001 Lexus IS300 Base 6 Cyl 3.0L - Engine
Why does my car hesitate and start to sputter and almost die when i hit the gas?
The car seems to act up when i accelerate it starts to sputter, chug and act like it is going to die. If I ease into acceleration it doesnt seem to be as bad but its still not right. It runs fine when up to speed unless you get on it to pass someone and then the same symptoms begin again

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
    Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

    Dirty or worn spark plugs
    Bad plug wires
    Weak ignition coil
    Wet plug wires

That is really what it feels like, because you stomp the gas pedal and the car does not respond at all but doesnt die and it seems like it should. you ease into the throttle and it runs like it always did until it shifts into the high range and the its like it hesitates or misfires again.
