Why does my car make a clicking sound when I attempt to start it when it's cold outside?

It seems like when it's cooler outside, my car acts as if it doesn't want to start and it makes a clicking sound when I turn the key, although it eventually starts. When it's warm, I don't sem to have this problem. What could be causing this?

See this Starting system simplified diagram .

Check the battery, the starter cables for their tightness and free of corrosion.
