Why is car is burning alot of coolant?
234,000 miles, oil and coolant is not mixing- oil stays clean. Heavy cloud of steam pours out the tailpipe when driving

Sounds like a cracked head or blown head gasket.

Coolant is going out the exhaust via head gasket & or cracked head. A cylinder leak test will help narrow it down. Could still get coolant in oil if you keep driving it. Also, the exhaust smells like antifreeze. Does the radiator hose feel hard to squeeze(meaning the cooling system has pressure), or soft when squeezed(which usually means a leak in system)? What temperature gauge reads is also an indicator.
