Why do I get a battery symbol and the word brake appearing on dash?

After driving only a short time, the symbol for battery and the word brake appear on dash. It will go away only when I accelerate. New battery as of 3/2014. Rebuilt alternator installed 2 years ago.
Car has 153,400 miles.
